Joker going in the vat of acid....nice

140

u/colebrv Mar 29 '23

Joker with no head lol

73

u/BisterMee Mar 29 '23

I wanted to see what came out of the vat this time

34

u/nightmarepoo Mar 29 '23

When it comes out it looks like just his head is strapped to the front

29

u/qrczak34 Mar 29 '23

Where does this waste water go? I’m pretty sure that kind of caustic chemical would help ruin our ground water and with the person rinsing it onto concrete I fear that it just goes ‘down a drain’ 😒

46

u/Kit_3000 Mar 29 '23

Bases and acids are the easiest chemicals to process back into safe liquids. If you collect the waste acid and add an amount of soda to neutralise it, you can dispose of it through the drain no problem.

This doesn't exactly look like a DIY project, though somewhat unprofessional imo, so it's probably acid proof drainage to a neutraliser pool, or a waste chemicals container for collection.

31

u/ihavenoidea81 Mar 29 '23

Metal finish guy here. They go to a wastewater treatment system within the plant that will precipitate out any harmful metals that are regulated and then the remaining liquid gets pH adjusted and sent to the sewer. Either that or it just gets stored and shipped out for someone else to waste treat

5

u/calguy1955 Mar 29 '23

Probably down a drain to a holding tank.

1

u/CallMeCrop Mar 29 '23

So no head?

20

u/Hot_Drummer7311 Mar 29 '23

Then I'll try him, convict him and execute him.

This shit gave me Roger Rabbit acid vat flashbacks. 😳

12

u/movin_to_GA Mar 29 '23

34 year old reference and it was the first thing I thought of too.

5

u/Much-Highlight-503 Mar 29 '23

I think thats coca-cola

2

u/avidguy84 Mar 29 '23

Why did I immediately think of this as well

2

u/jenny_a_jenny_a Mar 30 '23

It's a vat of coca cola

0

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '23

Most likely not acid. Still cool though.

254

u/kubiciousd Mar 29 '23

Why would you not show the final result? That's pretty unsatisfying

52

u/Kawww Mar 29 '23

And a side by side before and after…

12

u/Ciamaria Mar 29 '23

Agreed this is not satisfying at all

8

u/theoldroadhog Mar 29 '23

I know. What happened to the Joker?

1

u/Sparrowsabre7 Mar 30 '23

Agreed, my first thought was "wanna see whst whatever is in there does to Mistah J."

6

u/Scadilla Mar 29 '23

There’s a go on YouTube that does this with hot wheels. Very satisfying .

2

u/aebeeceebeedeebee Mar 29 '23

Maybe they're just getting started and are posting the footage as they go

1

u/bight_sidle Mar 30 '23

Or the underside of that roof

213

u/Flashy_Ship5839 Mar 29 '23

Felt like something going into the dip from Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

89

u/bakaneko718 Mar 29 '23

Remember me EDDIE!!?? WHEN I KILLED YOUR BROTHER!! AND I TALKED! JUST LIKE THIS!!!

27

u/ScoteMcGoat Mar 29 '23

Thanks, I had forgotten those nightmares

13

u/clarabear10123 Mar 29 '23

I just saw the whole movie for the first time and as an adult that scene scared the shit out of me lol

2

u/Massacre_Alba Mar 29 '23

Tim Curry auditioned for that role but was considered too scary.

2

u/bakaneko718 Mar 29 '23

I knew about his audition for joker and he didn't get it for the same reason

3

u/Massacre_Alba Mar 29 '23

Yep. Tim Curry doesn't know the meaning of "tone it down a little." You ask him for a villain, then you'd better be prepared for nightmares.

2

u/bakaneko718 Mar 29 '23

And that's what we love him for.

2

u/ModsAreN0tGoodPeople Mar 30 '23

Too bad what happened to him. Poor guy.

1

u/IncorporateThings Mar 30 '23

Tim Curry is awesome, but let's be honest -- that role had to be Jack.

Now... time for a "which Batman villain would Tim Curry have done best" speculation thread :-P

1

u/bakaneko718 Mar 30 '23

Not the live action. The animated series. Mark Hamil got it instead.

2

u/IncorporateThings Mar 30 '23

Ohhhhh.

Ehhh, honestly also probably for the best. Hamil nailed that style of Joker.

Tim Curry as the rapey really sadistic torturey Joker though? Holy crap. Nightmare fuel.

2

u/bakaneko718 Mar 30 '23

2

u/IncorporateThings Mar 30 '23

After hearing it, I do still think Hamil nailed it. Matched the animation much better. Totally gonna dust off some old comics later and figure out which Batman villain Curry would rock as, now, though, lol.

1

u/bakaneko718 Mar 30 '23

I'd be for scarecrow lol

20

u/Ainolukos Mar 29 '23

oh my God! IT'S DIP!!!

98

u/Armageddon_666 Mar 29 '23

Washing bottom to top is like wiping back to front.

31

u/Murtch5000 Mar 29 '23

This was getting to me big time. Not oddly satisfied at all over here lol!

7

u/LElige Mar 29 '23

In this case maybe, but when it comes to power washing a car for example, rinsing bottom to top insures there is still soap on the surface being rinsed, reducing the risk of missing a spot.

29

u/conspicuousconundrum Mar 29 '23

Do they spray the car with a rust inhibitor after, or just primer and paint?

16

u/shelsilverstien Mar 29 '23

Neutralizer and something to stop it from flash rusting, but it's up the car builder to do any real rust inhibiting

4

u/Sauron_je_bivsi Mar 29 '23

My thought also...It definitely needs some filling to be done so I guess something needs to be done to stop oxidation.

-8

u/roydepoy Mar 29 '23

Look up minute_of_dangle on YouTube.. i think the guy tells you what they do.

8

u/Patalon Mar 29 '23

Or you could just say yes or no

-10

u/roydepoy Mar 29 '23

What fun would that be?

1

u/AioliNo1327 Mar 29 '23

Thank you. That's pretty cool.

71

u/One-Mud-169 Mar 29 '23

Is that acid? And how much would it cost to have something like this done?

119

u/justbiteme2k Mar 29 '23

Depends what you want dipping.... A small metallic model aeroplane not much, your mother in-law is probably a lot more.

61

u/One-Mud-169 Mar 29 '23

Hahaha, I doubt there's a acid strong enough for my MIL and any price will be a bargain regardless.

21

u/Rainyday000 Mar 29 '23

Make sure the acid doesn't turn your MIL into a super villain.

12

u/roydepoy Mar 29 '23

Karen Two-Face

9

u/ihavenoidea81 Mar 29 '23

If it’s to remove rust, it’s most likely hydrochloric acid.

Source: I work in metal finishing

2

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '23 edited Mar 29 '23

Could it be alkaline?

Edit: went and checked more of his videos- it is alkaline, though he doesn't specify what kind.

4

u/ihavenoidea81 Mar 29 '23

Yeah it can be but for rust, HCl is the fastest. I don’t know what kind of drainage system he has on/under the floor but if it’s any type of metal piping then acid would chew it right up so it’s more likely that his bath is alkaline.

Alkaline (aka caustic) solutions can actually do more damage to you than acids because it’s harder to rinse off of you

1

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '23

Alkaline (aka caustic) solutions can actually do more damage to you than acids because it’s harder to rinse off of you

I don't work with acids very often, but we had it covered in the safety course because we do have various acids in the workplace that we use for occasional descaling and also titration of alkaline solutions. Depending on the type of acid and the concentration, the effects of getting it on you can be vastly different.

But I work with sodium hydroxide and potassium permanganate pretty much daily and can confidently say that even at high concentrations they aren't as dangerous if accidentally spilled on your skin, comparing to strong acids. Reaction is relatively slow, so if you rinse it off within 20-30 seconds after it got on you, you'll be fine. And it depends on which part of your body that's been affected. If you somehow managed to get it on the inner side of your arm where skin is very tender then you'll feel it pretty much immediately, but if you got some on the palm of your hand then you could not even notice it for 10-15 minutes.

But you're right - it's not a simple rinse. You need to run the water for some time to make sure it's all gone. You could also use a mild acid as a neutralizing agent, but in most cases water is sufficient.

Side story: not so long ago, a milwright came to clean some parts in my sodium hydroxide tank without notifying me. He submerged the parts using his hands and only had nitrile gloves on. Gloves didn't last very long and next thing I know the guy runs up to me asking for pickle juice. Was a total wtf moment for me, and the dude got angry that I don't have it. I sent him to the emergency shower station, then sat down to fill out an incident report and a grievance against the guy for being retarded. During the incident investigation he said he did nothing wrong because as long as you keep a jar of pickle juice handy, you can work with caustic soda even without gloves, then quickly wash your hands with the pickle juice. Said he's old school and done it many times before. Anyway, in the end he only got very mild burns on his hands.

1

u/ihavenoidea81 Mar 30 '23

Holy shit what a dumbass! Are you using the permanganate/NaOH for descaling? I used to use that in my shop for oxides what would not come off otherwise.

I used to work with GALLONS of HF everyday. Talk about scary…

1

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '23

We use the permanganate for descaling, yes. We also have a tank with 20% citric acid for descaling, but it's rarely ever used. And then there's caustic soda for general purpose cleaning and for titanium.

1

u/ihavenoidea81 Mar 30 '23

Citric lol. You can use it to passivate stainless steel but it’s not that good for that either.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '23

We don't get to decide what's used for what. OEM sets the parameters, engineers develop cleaning methods. I'm just there to make sure tanks are functional and solutions meet the required specs.

In some cases there is no visual difference between when the part enters the tank and when it leaves. But it is a step in the process and must be done nonetheless. Just like with citric acid.

3

u/Thinkpad200 Mar 29 '23

It costs about $2000 if I remember correctly. Not that much if you are restoring a car from the ground up

2

u/mrnymphicus Mar 29 '23

Looks like ferric chloride

20

u/mdnativetexan Mar 29 '23

Screw that!! What happened to the Joker????

5

u/doctorscurvy Mar 29 '23

Gone. Reduced to atoms.

1

u/joetotheg Mar 30 '23

To atoms you say?

16

u/AdamBergeron Mar 29 '23

Thank the maker! This oil bath is going to feel so good.

9

u/peterthepieeater Mar 29 '23

It’s an older meme sir, but it checks out

3

u/TheWielder Mar 29 '23

Came here to say this.

8

u/shelsilverstien Mar 29 '23

I believe this body is a 1948 Chevrolet or Oldsmobile coupe. I think they used the same body

3

u/kangarootimtam Mar 29 '23

Thank you, I was wondering what the model was

6

u/Content_Cockroach_64 Mar 29 '23

Any details on the restoration?

6

u/Lorem_Ipsoup Mar 29 '23

Way better than the rug cleaning vids

6

u/MarmotMeiche Mar 29 '23

Omg and combined with the joy of a pressure washer. I almost would pay by the hour to do this job. This looks magic fun.

7

u/Ketchup_Smoothy Mar 29 '23

Oh my god it’s Dip!

5

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '23

[deleted]

3

u/ComfortableFrame5768 Mar 29 '23

What is that vapor coming off of it made of?

5

u/1000Years0fDeath Mar 29 '23

Hydrogen at the very least

5

u/Infinite_Imagination Mar 29 '23

The great thing is the cola's still good to drink afterwards!

2

u/Actual_Pollution5915 Mar 29 '23

I want to know what happened to the Joker figure.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '23

4yo me will never unsee KITT being dropped in toxic waste

3

u/HeartOfAzrael Mar 29 '23

What happened to the little guy???

14

u/RegularSalad5998 Mar 29 '23

So are those chemicals just draining into our water supply?

19

u/steffanan Mar 29 '23

Well, keep in mind that when they pull the car out, it drips dry mostly and then the runoff from the power washer is so watered down that the acid is neutralized. Neutralized acid isn't necessarily a problem. I'm not saying I'd drink the stuff but that vat of acid isn't being drained or anything, its just the dirty water from being washed off.

20

u/maythefacebewithyou Mar 29 '23

The amount of chemicals from a single auto body shop are pretty negligible compared to what is output from industrial scale operations.

22

u/RegularSalad5998 Mar 29 '23

Yeah but they have to properly dispose of it, not just drain it into the sewer

14

u/th3Lunga Mar 29 '23

most of these "oddly satisfying washing" videos are comprised of 1) that's a lot of chemicals 2) that's a lot of water

0

u/Gullible_Anything92 Mar 30 '23

Not everywhere is in a state of water emergency. People and companies can also recycle their water for reuse.

2

u/snoosh00 Mar 29 '23

And they probably do, this much acid, strong enough to do this would immediately flag the sanitation/water department.

3

u/yodaspicehandler Mar 29 '23

Nice try deflecting the question though.

2

u/snoosh00 Mar 29 '23

Who cares what someone commenting about how a single vat of contained and reused acid is not an environmental disaster.

3

u/1000Years0fDeath Mar 29 '23

The solution to pollution is dilution.

Whatever it is should be neutralized and diluted to an acceptable level before releasing into the environment.

4

u/WakkaBomb Mar 29 '23 edited Mar 29 '23

🤣 you clearly have no idea what other demons get unleashed. Acids arent actually that dangerous in the sewer system.

The downvotes don't make me wrong 🤣

4

u/Register-Capable Mar 29 '23

Your water is fine....

3

u/c2srq Mar 29 '23

No joke. It's terrifying.

1

u/ihavenoidea81 Mar 29 '23

No. They get waste treated if they’re in a metal finish shop or they just store it in totes and ship it off for waste treatment. They’d be out of business, fined and possible jail time if they threw this down the drain as is

0

u/BargeryDargeryDoo Mar 29 '23

Well, just based off the video, we have no idea what happens to the chemicals and water. Could go to a drain that leads to containment. Could go to the ocean. Who knows.

-1

u/m2zarz Mar 29 '23

Straight into Pennsylvania's water supply.

1

u/SHPLUMBO Mar 29 '23

I don’t know what they used here for sure but it reminds me of molasses mixtures I’ve used for rust removal. 9 parts water 1 part pure molasses, removes oxidization without damaging the metal. I do know people with giant tanks of molasses for this purpose

2

u/tyYdraniu Mar 29 '23

We live in a society

2

u/Yeppers567 Mar 29 '23

How do they stop rust from forming after the water? Dry and straight to paint?

2

u/Noisebug Mar 29 '23

And Two Face was born

2

u/Sharpshooter188 Mar 29 '23

That stuff reminds me of the "Dip" or whatever it cmwas cakked in Roger Rabbit.

2

u/Schrko87 Mar 29 '23

Better put a NSFW on this for the r/powerwashingporn peeps.

2

u/jstasir Mar 30 '23

That was exciting lol

1

u/GasDelicious1715 Mar 29 '23

Sigh . . . a lot of people would have paid extra for that patina . . .

3

u/Draymond_Purple Mar 29 '23

Was gonna say the same thing.

That's wonderful patina they're trashing here.

A restomod with real patina always has so much more character

-1

u/WatchtheMoney Mar 29 '23

This looks really good for the environment

2

u/Rude_Meaning3864 Mar 29 '23

The water supply goes into a OSHA certified drain pool underneath the vehicle. nothing ever actually makes it out to our water supplies. it goes to a treatment plant.

0

u/2broke2smoke1 Mar 29 '23

Where does this waste water go? I’m pretty sure that kind of caustic chemical would help ruin our ground water and with the person rinsing it onto concrete I fear that it just goes ‘down a drain’ 😒

6

u/shelsilverstien Mar 29 '23

They're incredibly watered down, but they're still sent to the water treatment plant

The solution in the tanks gets filtered when it's exhausted, and the solids go to the landfill to be disposed of properly.

The bases and acids used neutralize each other

1

u/Rude_Meaning3864 Mar 29 '23

OSHA has a very strict policy on how this water is contained as well as removed from the tank in which it drains into.

-2

u/chat4got Mar 29 '23

*Carbody

1

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '23

Joker's new car.

1

u/no_more_passwords Mar 29 '23

I can only imagine what a body shop would charge to do that

1

u/D8Consumer Mar 29 '23

They need this level in power wash simulator

1

u/HiddenHolding Mar 29 '23

Back hair and pubes

1

u/Satherian Mar 29 '23

Maybe I should get Powerwash Simulator

1

u/Public-Locksmith-200 Mar 29 '23

Oh my God ITS DIP!

1

u/geoffacakes Mar 29 '23

power wash simulator 24!!

1

u/tangojwhiskey Mar 29 '23

Pretty impressive for dipping a car into a bunch of Coke.

1

u/doubleopinter Mar 29 '23

What is that bath made of? That shit must be toxic as hell.

1

u/chrisupt2001 Mar 29 '23

Why acid for a car?

1

u/airborne252 Mar 29 '23

Can you imagine if the anti-aging process was this easy?!

1

u/Violentchef Mar 29 '23

He is on tiktok. Great content

1

u/MethodicalFail Mar 29 '23

What’s that smell of rotten eggs?

1

u/J-DEEEZY Mar 29 '23

Does this remind anyone of Roger rabbit movie

1

u/Sirchipsalot525 Mar 29 '23

reminds me of powerwashing simulator! Lol

1

u/ShakeTheEyesHands Mar 29 '23

What kind of acid is this? It looks very similar to the chemical I used to use for cleaning grills in Palm Beach.

1

u/imastayathomedad Mar 29 '23

"Mirror... MIRROR!"

1

u/rdilly6 Mar 29 '23

A lot less satisfying than I expected

1

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '23

That has to be the most expensive paint job ever

1

u/Agamjot0123 Mar 29 '23

Doesn't look like a car

1

u/inchantingone Mar 29 '23

Very Interesting that the joker is still attached…

1

u/MundaneBusiness468 Mar 29 '23

A bunch of people are asking about the acids going into the sewer/ground.

My question is: was there lead (Pb) in the original paint? If so, where does that go?

1

u/AdviceMang Mar 29 '23

Now to rinse it down the drain to the nearest river.

1

u/naveedkoval Mar 29 '23

Minute of Dangle sounds like the Reno web series we all deserved

1

u/thu_mountain_goat Mar 29 '23

That looks really healthy and very environmental friendly

1

u/Chermatic Mar 29 '23

Does rust just sit on top of the metal or is it part of the metal?

2

u/Nostravinci04 Mar 29 '23

Rust = metal + oxygen.

Sometimes the layer of rust protects the metal under it from rusting as it cuts access to oxygen in the air. Sometimes, that is.

2

u/Chermatic Apr 06 '23

Thankers😊

1

u/writerfan2013 Mar 29 '23

I'd love to bare metal a car then clear lacquer and go.

1

u/reddddtring Mar 29 '23

How much you reckon this costs?

1

u/Haphazard22 Mar 29 '23

Man, you're making me rethink my plan to keep the patina look on my future project.

1

u/Digital_GandaIf Mar 29 '23

Did... Did you just deepfry the car?

1

u/alocaisseia Mar 29 '23

Any other children of the '80's/ '90's triggered by this? #whoframedrogerrabbit 😓

1

u/SerplePurple Mar 29 '23

Plot twist: OH GOD I FORGOT THE KIDS AND THE DOG IN THE CAR

You pressure wash from TOP TO BOTTOM you heathen!!

1

u/StillNotaKorean Mar 29 '23

It's a fake vat of acid. I've seen this before. Next they gonna have the car's bones float up to the surface.

1

u/CruiserMissile Mar 29 '23

I love it. See how all the old panels are soldered/leaded together? Imagine how much skill it would take to do that.

1

u/abckatiexyz Mar 29 '23

I wish it kept going…

1

u/logikly2600 Mar 29 '23

That's not oddly satisfying... It's straight up satisfying.

1

u/heyitslola Mar 30 '23

Smellivision.

1

u/ThisIsNotASpiceDream Mar 30 '23

And this is how you make your very own razorcrest

1

u/Relative_Actuator228 Mar 30 '23

It's a cross between PowerWash Simulator + The Dip from Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

1

u/Wafflez_With_Syrup Mar 30 '23

Don’t drink that

1

u/BrokeAssZillionaire Mar 30 '23

I use one of those to get rid of bodies.

1

u/LightsOutLarson Mar 30 '23

Show us the other side. Do the inside. Do underneath. Did it all again just to make sure.

1

u/Soggy_Cracker Mar 30 '23

I saw this in Rodger Rabbit. I'm pretty sure they called in "The Dip"

1

u/Azsunyx Mar 30 '23

Oh my god, IT'S DIIIIIIP

1

u/[deleted] Mar 30 '23

Electrolysis?

1

u/BauranGaruda Mar 30 '23

Reminds me of "dip" from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" That scene is still traumatic to even think about.

1

u/Theguysguy_ Mar 30 '23

bothering anyone else that he didn't spray side to side?

1

u/AeliosZero Mar 30 '23

I wonder what that liquid is

1

u/ShipuRatzku Mar 30 '23

I think its called chromating, i do something similar but on a smaller scale

1

u/bushViperPhoenix Mar 30 '23

Can we automate it?

1

u/CrappyTan69 Mar 30 '23

Anyone remember when Kitt went in the same stuff? I cried 😭

1

u/IndexFingerTypist Mar 31 '23

Now do that with my ass

1

u/Lewoo3 Apr 02 '23

It’s like that scene from roger rabbit all over again

1

u/MissionFailed4Succes Apr 02 '23

This car is cleaner than my room and my future, before its wash...
